"We are extremely happy with the community support we have been given. After raising nearly $70,000 last year we are thrilled to have raised $92,200 in a year filled with economic challenges," stated Kathy Bartelli, Le Mars United Way Board Chair. "This goes to show the true commitment of the Le Mars community."
In order to meet the needs in our area, organizers knew they needed to raise more than last year so they set a goal of $85,000, Bartelli explained
"This was an ambitious goal to say the least and we are proud that the generosity of the community and our business leaders has helped us to exceed that goal," she said.
Bartelli said many factors contributed to the success of this year's campaign.
"The annual Le Mars United Way golf tournament provided a solid start to this year's campaign doubling the amount raised over last year," she said. "The increase in registered teams and the participation of Wells Dairy and their employees helped to make this event extremely successful."
New employee campaigns at Dean Foods, Schuster Trucking, and Wells Dairy Inc. also helped to boost fundraising this year.
Despite tough economic times, there were several companies who increased their giving this year: Mid American Energy, American Bank, NIPCO, Schuster Trucking, Vantus Bank, Dean Foods, Plymouth County Secondary Roads Department, Primebank, and Wells' Dairy, among others.
The Le Mars United Way is still accepting donations and those interested in contributing can call 255-3551.
Later this month, the funding process will get under way with information and applications becoming available at the library, Le Mars Area Chamber office, United Way of Siouxland offices, and online at unitedwaysiouxland.com. Agencies can also call United Way offices at 255-3551.
