Larry Kenneth Hunter, 59, of New Braunfels, Texas, died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in New Braunfels.
Larry Kenneth Hunter was born Aug. 15, 1949, in Cherokee, Iowa.
For more than 30 years, Larry worked in construction, building feed mills and grain elevators in Iowa. While living in Austin and Kyle, Texas, he also worked in construction and drove a Big Red delivery truck for nine years. He spent the last nine years working at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in New Braunfels.
Larry never met a stranger. He was a friend to people and animals alike. While working part-time as a maintenance man in his community, he made a lot of friends. After he quit being the community maintenance man, he was always the maintenance man for his friends. Larry always enjoyed helping out those that needed it most, including several of the residents of his community: driving them to the airport, doctors' appointments, and Wal-Mart or mowing yards for the elderly on fixed incomes. For the past five years, he also sponsored a young boy from Honduras named Obed.
Larry had a great sense of humor and he loved music, movies, and he always enjoyed thrilling amusement park rides. A big sports enthusiast, he followed the Texas Longhorns, Minnesota Vikings and the San Antonio Spurs. He enjoyed life to its fullest and lived life in the moment with no regrets. He will be dearly missed by his family and many, many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hunter; his daughter, Wendy Jones and her husband Ernie of New Braunfels; his brother, Lance Hunter and his wife Debbie of Clermont, Fla.; his sister, Luann Moeller and her husband Dana of Fairmont, Minn.; his granddaughters, Brianna and Erin Jones of New Braunfels; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marjorie Hunter, and his first wife, Marla Clare Hunter.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at the First United Methodist Church of New Braunfels, Texas. A fellowship gathering will be held in Wesley Hall immediately following the service.
