'Dogs post pair of wins at Spirit Lake

Le Mars notched a pair of dual wins on the road Thursday in Spirit Lake as eight Bulldogs posted 2-0 records on the night.

Against the hosts, the Bulldogs edged their way to a 39-33 win.

In the second dual, Le Mars defeated Cherokee 48-28.

At 103, freshman Mason Cook posted two wins - a forfeit against Cherokee and a pin in 4:31 against Spirit Lake.

CJ Singer's 2-0 record on the night closely resembled Cook's as the 112 pound freshman also got a forfeit win against Cherokee. Against Spirit Lake, Singer won by fall in 1:58.

Quinton Vore recorded a pair of pins at 125, taking down Cherokee's Jake Letsch in 5:33 and defeating his Spirit Lake opponent in 3:40.

Junior Anthony Schimek also went 2-0 on the night. At 130, Schimek pinned Cherokee's Alex Peck in 1:04 before winning by fall in 3:02 against Spirit Lake.

Zach Reed went 1-1 on the night at 140 pounds. The sophomore pinned Cherokee's Tyson English in 34 seconds.

At 145, Brayton Ringsdorf won a 4-0 decision against Cherokee and a 10-7 decision against Spirit Lake to post a 2-0 record on the evening.

Ben Beitelspacher tallied a pair of pins in his 2-0 showing with wins by fall in 3:17 against Cherokee and 3:37 against Spirit Lake.

At 189, Spencer Vore won by fall in 4:33 against Cherokee before grabbing a 4-3 decision over Spirit Lake to post two wins on the night.

Chris Stevenson also notched a 2-0 post at Spirit Lake. The sophomore heavyweight won a 3-2 decision against Cherokee and then took an 8-4 decision over Spirit Lake.

Coach Tom Smalley's squad is on the road again this weekend at the Forest City tournament. The Bulldogs will make the lengthy trip Friday night before competing on Saturday. Smalley said he is looking forward to the competition his team will face at the meet.
