The Hawks poured in 32 first half points before running into a huge dry spell in the third quarter, where RSM netted just one free throw.
A 17-point fourth quarter forced overtime as regulation ended with a 50-50 tie.
Tanner Kockler led the Hawks with 16 points in the loss.
Skyler Higgins kicked in three 3-point shots and a pair of free throws to total 11 points. Michael Wesselmann also hit a trio of 3-pointers for the Hawks.
Billy Steichen added five points.
Steichen led the team on defense with 15 total rebounds. Beau Pick pulled down 10 boards while Kockler totaled five, Higgins had four and Wesselmann grabbed three.
RSM totaled 39 rebounds as a team, including 28 on defense.
Steichen grabbed five steals while Chad Weiler had four and Kockler recorded three. The Hawks totaled 15 steals on the night.
RSM committed 17 turnovers as a team in the loss.
The non-conference loss drops the Hawks to 2-7 on the season.
RSM is back in action Friday night. The Hawks travel to Hawarden to face West Sioux in a War Eagle Conference contest.
On Sunday, RSM hosts the championship round of the CYO tournament. Coach Ken Hajek's squad will face Storm Lake St. Mary's in the consolation game at 2:30 p.m.
