'Dogs sixth at Spencer Invitational

Brayton Ringsdorf and Spencer Vore recorded third place finishes to lift Le Mars to a sixth place team finish at Saturday's Spencer Invitational.

At 145, Ringsdorf started with a 9-8 decision over Spencer's Tim Juza before falling to Twin River Valley's Levi Peters by fall in 5:35. From there, Ringsdorf posted two more wins, defeating Okoboji's Kris Kaufman by 5-2 decision and Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto's Zach Schoenfield by technical fall (16-0) to place third with a 3-1 posting on the day.

Vore also posted a 3-1 record as he placed third at 189 pounds. The senior recorded a pin on Kingsley-Pierson's Cole Simons (3:14) before losing to Spencer's Sean Elliot by fall (1:05). Vore continued to a major decision (13-4) over TRV's Cody Vanderhoff and then pinned Simons in 1:15 to take third place.

The Bulldogs got fourth place points at 103, 112 and 160. Mason Cook went 2-2 with a major decision (16-6) over Sioux City East's Jeremy Bennett and a pin of K-P's Corey Becker (4:21) before losing in the third place match to Clear Lake's Austin Horner by fall (1:00) to place fourth.

At 112, CJ Singer went 1-2 with a pin on MVAO's Cody Dolezal (1:39) to place fourth on the day.

Zach Dimmick lost to Okoboji's Pat Lahr by fall (4:13) before recording wins over MVAO's Kalvin Hinricksen by major decision (8-0) and Estherville-Lincoln Central's Mat McMurty by decision (9-5). In the third place match, Dimmick lost to Lahr by major decision (13-0).

At 135, Rene Van Wyhe went 3-2 to place fifth. The junior started with a loss to Clear Lake's Joe Beiber by fall in 1:47. He went to record a pin (2:57) and an 8-2 decision before dropping an 8-2 decision to MVAO's Cole Holton. In the fifth place match, Van Wyhe edge Lawton-Bronson's Dylon Lower by decision 14-12 in overtime.

Zach Reed was fifth at 140 with a 2-2 record. The sophomore recorded wins by major decision (12-0) and fall (0:49). Reed's pin of K-P's Matt Steffen earned him fifth place in the weight class.

Kelly Lind recorded a 2-2 posting at 215 pounds with a pair of pins over East's Chris Murphy (3:31) and TRV's Phil Roether (1:34) to place fifth.

Chris Stevenson was also fifth after going 2-2 at heavyweight. Stevenson lost to TRV's Bryce Jenson by fall (4:39) before defeating East's Alex Bradbury with a pin in 2:28.

A loss to L-B's Ryan Miller by fall in 4:30 sent the sophomore to the fifth place match, where he defeated MVAO's Adam Kuhl by fall in 5:38.

Pelani Permeswaran recorded a win over TRV's Tyler Maggaard by a 5-4 decision as the sophomore went 1-3 to place sixth at 119 pounds.

Quinton Vore also finished sixth with a 1-3 record at 125. The sophomore pinned K-P's Caleb Bush (3:06) before finishing the weight class with three losses.

As a team, the Bulldogs were sixth with 115.5 points on the day. Clear Lake was the team champion with 269 points.

Kingsley-Pierson finished ninth in the 10-team field with 36 points.

Cole Simons recorded the highest finish for the Panthers with a 2-2 record at 189 pounds, which was good for fourth place. Both of the sophomore's losses came at the hands of Le Mars' Spencer Vore who placed third in the weight class.

The two started the day facing off with Spencer Vore pinning Simons in 3:14.

Simons went on to pin Okoboji's Shane Vanderpool (4:50) and Clear Lake's Nathan Higgins (2:16) before taking on Vore in the third place match. Vore was triumphant with a pin in 1:15 as Simons placed fourth.

At 103, Corey Becker earned fifth place honors with a 2-2 record.

The freshman recorded pins against MVAO's Joel Barry (1:29) and East's Jeremy Bennett (2:10).

Matt Steffen was sixth at 140 pounds with a 1-3 posting. Steffen defeated MVAO's Tim Dougherty by decision (6-4) before dropping the next three.

Sean Bainbridge was also sixth as he recorded a 1-3 posting at 152 pounds. The senior defeated Okoboji's Zach Jones by 3-2 decision before recording two losses by decision - 11-8 and 10-7 - and one by fall (3:54).

The Panthers will host Alta and South O'Brien on Tuesday before traveling to Woodbine on Thursday.

The Le Mars grapplers have a couple lengthy trips this week as they compete at Spirit Lake on Thursday and at Forest City on Saturday.
