"We played hard, but you could tell our youth showed," coach Adam Rapp said.
"Woodbury Central is an experienced team. They had everybody back, a height advantage and a lot more experience."
Ryan Mercer led the Panthers with 16 points and knocked down four second-half 3-pointers. He also added six assists and three steals.
"He played reall well tonight -- he showed me a little extra," Rapp said. "I'm really proud of him."
Tyler Donaldson, one of three seniors on the K-P roster, added 12 points. Junior Tyler Sudbeck added 10 rebounds.
"The seniors did a nice job staying poised and not getting frustrated with each other," Rapp said. "They continued to work together. We'll get better."
The Panthers found themselves in an 18-5 disadvantage after the first quarter and Woodbury Central only extended their lead from that point.
The Wildcats led 36-16 at the half and 54-27 after three quarters of play.
"Our kids worked hard," Rapp said. "They never quit."
The Panthers return to action Thursday at home against Remsen St. Mary. The Hawks are 0-1 on the the season and Rapp expects a good game.
"I know they graduated a lot of kids like we did last year, so it should be a competitive game," he said.
"I'm looking forward to it."
