The prayer service will educate students and guests alike as to the definition of a veteran and the meaning of the folding of the flag for a fallen soldier.
Dan McCarty, a veteran and Gehlen Catholic graduate, will share his family's long military traditions. McCarty is president of the Board of Education of Spalding Catholic School and chief operating officer of the Orange City Area Health System. The 8:45 a.m. prayer service will conclude with "Taps."
Lisa Sitzmann, Director of Campus Ministries, shared, "The Christian Leadership Team feels strongly that every United States citizen should keep the pride of the red, white and blue in the forefront of our hearts. It is vitally important to educate students of all ages on just what it means to lay down ones life for his/her country and the courage it takes and in some cases, the price of freedom. We salute our veterans today, as we have in the past, as we will in the future because we live in a country protected by men and women whose courage deserves our respect."
The prayer service is open to Catholics and non-Catholics alike; active, retired, and reservists; and their families in Plymouth County. Rolls and coffee will be served following in the Kolker Library & Media Center.
