How much fun can you have in one parking lot?
That's what organizers of the Le Mars Church of Christ's Halloween event say.
The church is hosting the second annual free Trunk-or-Treat on Friday, Oct. 31 in their church parking lot.
From 5-7 p.m., kids and families can go from car trunk to car trunk to trick-or-treat.
"We have at least 30 trunks lined up," said Jeannette Kinney, one of the event planners. "And people of all ages can come. It's definitely not just for kids."
The trunks will not only be filled with goodies, but they will also be decorated with themes like Mario Brothers and Christmas, Kinney said.
A Plymouth County Sheriff's representative and someone from D.A.R.E. will also be at the event to join the fun.
After families trunk-or-treat, they can hang out around a bonfire and chomp into some snacks like hot dogs, chili, s'mores, hot chocolate, and they can sing or enjoy some music.
This is the local Church of Christ's second year hosting the free community event.
"We had, in the past, always done something just for our church, like a bonfire," Kinney said. "'We thought, let's make it a safe, fun fall evening.'"
And kids and families picked up on the idea.
"We were hoping for 100 people and I think we had 300," Kinney laughed. "People really had positive feedback from it. This year, maybe we'll have 500."
The Church of Christ is located on Adler Drive in eastern Le Mars.
