Ronny L. Weiland, 71, of Le Mars and formerly of Cherokee, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.
Ronny was born June 28, 1937 at Canistota, S.D., the son of Earl and Lois (Tarrell) Weiland. He graduated from Quimby High Schol in 1955. He served in the U. S. Navy from June 1955 until March 1963. He was married to Coleen Sue Morrow on April 14, 1957 at Cherokee.
He had worked for Mangold Plumbing for five years and Wilson Foods for many years, retiring in 2000. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church. He had been a resident of Cherokee most of his life and had also lived in Le Mars for six years.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and especially time spent with his family.
He is survived by four children: Ronette Schultzen and her husband Brian of Moville, Marty Weiland and his wife Jean Ann of Le Mars, Teresa Peters and her husband Jeff of Le Mars, and Terry Weiland and his wife Angie of Fostoria; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Eugene Weiland and his wife Bertha of Cherokee, Darrell Weiland and his wife Diane of Cherokee, Jerry Weiland and his wife Madeline of Hartford, Conn., and Wayne Weiland and his wife Kathy of South Sioux City, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Coleen in 2003 and a great-grandson Gabriel Clausen.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. The Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, with graveside military rites conducted by the VFW L.A. Wescott Post 2253. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m.
