By using Plymouth County as a bond issuer, Girls Inc., of Sioux City, is eligible for tax-exempt bonds under federal and state law.
Girls Inc. is asking for help from the county because closer governmental bodies were not eligible to do so, based on a rule that a governmental entity cannot issue tax exempt debt in excess of $10 million in a calendar year.
Plymouth County will charge Girls Inc. a $1,500 administrative fee to issue the bonds for items like advertising costs for the public hearing and bookkeeping services.
The supervisors agreed that will be a flat fee for anyone with future requests.
Girls Inc., a nonprofit organization, provides after school and summer programs to girls age 6-18 to encourage development of self-esteem and productive life goals. There is a fee for participation, but that's on a sliding scale based on income. Scholarships are also available.
The new Girls Inc. planned center at, 500 Main St., Sioux City, will be 24,000 square feet, double the current center's size, and will contain a learning center, library, gymnasium and science and computer center.
The supervisors also:
*Renewed a liquor license for Hole N' The Wall and approved a temporary five-day liquor license for Special Troopers Adaptive Riding School (S.T.A.R.S.) Inc.'s annual fundraiser.
*Approved spending a total of $5,103 to repair the floors in two bathrooms and two showers at Pride Group Inc.'s residential care facility on Highway 3. Sherwin Williams of Le Mars will do the work.
