Blackhawks race to strong finishes at MVAO Invite

Hinton raced back into cross country competition Thursday afternoon at the Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto Invitational in Mapleton.

The Blackhawks recorded five top 10 finishes on the girls' side, ranging from junior high to the varsity level.

Leading the way for Hinton's varsity squad was Haley Hall. The freshman crossed ninth, finishing the 2.4 mile race in 18:46.

Just behind her was Audrey Jenkins. The junior barely missed the top 10 with her 18:57 finish, which was good for 11th place overall.

About a minute behind Jenkins was senior Brandi Schindel, who ran the race in 20:05 to finished 14th overall.

Sophomore Jordan Townes clocked in 23rd with a time of 21:16 while freshman Ally Beeck and senior Kelci Teut rounded out the varsity finishes for the Blackhawks. Beeck finished 28th in 23:05. Although Teut finished about a minute behind the freshman - in 24:01 - the senior was able to finish 29th, just one spot behind Beeck.

On the JV level, freshman Judith Mauer raced to a first place finish with her time of 20:33.

Junior Crystal Robinson was not far behind as she finished third in 20:45.

Rounding out the JV for the Blackhawks with another top 10 finish was Audrey Jenkins. The junior finished seventh with a time of 23:25.

Grabbing a great finish on the junior high level was Haley Grenko. Grenko ran the two mile race in 17:46 to finish second for Hinton.

On the boys' side of the meet, Daniel Grigsby was the lone runner for Hinton. Racing on the varsity level, the junior clocked in a time of 22:21 on the 3.1 mile race to place 30th overall.

The Blackhawks are back in action tonight at the Alta Invite. The first race is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
