After a tight first game against Southeast Webster-Grand, which Le Mars won 25-21, the Lady Bulldogs opened up a huge victory in game two, winning 25-9.
Finally, the Lady Bulldogs wrapped up play at the tournament with a 2-0 win over Van Meter. Le Mars won their games 25-20 and 25-14 to complete their perfect sweep on the day.
"It was a fun day," Le Mars coach Susan Irwin said. "We were able to run a lot of our offense and the girls needed that."
Leading that offense was Kaylee Thompson at the net with a team-high 18 kills. Amy Lubben and Kirstie Ruhland were right behind, with 15 and 14 kills, respectively.
Setting up the offense, Lubben led with 41 assists. Helping her out was Molly Fischer with 21 assists.
Also adding to the Lady Bulldogs' offense were five girls with ace serves. Tara Lehner had a team-high nine aces while Ruhland added eight. Lubben, Thompson and Cassie Kuiken each served up seven aces in the tournament.
On defense, Emily TeBrink totaled 17 digs in the back row and Kuiken added 15 to the effort. Thompson had a team-high six blocks while Kelby Klein added five and Lehner had four.
The Lady Bulldogs, who also won this tournament last fall, improve their record to 7-0 after Saturday's wins.
Irwin said the girls started the day a little slow, "but we picked it up as the day went on," she said. "Our serving at first hurt us a bit, but then we focused on that quite a bit and that helped us a lot."
Noting a key strength on the day, Irwin said, "Our passing again was really strong. That's a positive thing to walk into Monday night with."
Tonight, the Lady Bulldogs venture on yet another road trip, this time taking on Emmetsburg in a Lakes Conference battle. Irwin believes that both squads graduated several seniors last year, so the two should be matched up well.
"It should be a good match," Irwin said.
