"There is an opportunity for a write-in candidate to be elected," said Superintendent Dr. Todd Wendt.

According to Deputy Auditor Cheri Nitzschke, if the write-in candidate with the most votes declines to serve on the board, the seat is declared vacant.
The school board can then appoint a person to the seat, but that person would only serve until the next school board election or the next special election for the district.
If there is a tie in the number of votes, the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors would draw lots to decide which candidate would serve.
The District 3 seat is currently held by Marjorie Franke, who indicated in June that she would not seek re-election.
Director District 3 covers the northwest portion of Le Mars, north of Third Street South and east to Third Avenue East, with a jog to Fourth Avenue Northeast. The northern boundary is just north of Seventh Street Northeast. The western boundary extends to 16th Street Northwest and the Le Mars Airport property.

PLEASE!!!! Don't let the school board appoint a Wendt "Yes Man." If you know of a quality, thinking individual who makes informed decisions and lives in the northwest portion of Le Mars, please talk to him/her about taking on this responsibility. If you find someone willing to be a write-in, please post the name to this comment board so the citizen's can make the choice rather than the school board.
Unfortunately, this is a thankless position, especially in the current economic climate. I have checked with several people already, none of whom were willing to even consider running. For that reason, we really should thank those who do serve in this capacity. Whether you agree with the board members or not, they don't have a fun job. THANK YOU!
