Marian F. (Messelhiser) Roberts, 86, of Canon City, Colo., formerly of Le Mars, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Canon City.

Marian Frances Braband was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Ireton, the daughter of Henry and Edna (Carpenter) Braband. She was raised and attended school in the Ireton area. On Oct. 10, 1943, Marian and Albert Messelhiser were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Le Mars. Marian worked at Harker's Meats while Albert was as an upholsterer. Albert died on May 5, 1976.

Marian and Albert R. Roberts were married on July 1, 1979, at Canon City, Colo. They made their home in Canon City where Marian spent her retirement years. Albert died on Feb. 12, 2007.

Marian attended the United Methodist Church of Le Mars and the United Methodist Church and Healing Waters Church in Canon City, Colo. She volunteered at the Golden Age Center and as a commodities distributor. She enjoyed playing cards and volunteering her time at the Senior Center.

She will be lovingly remembered by three children, Larry (Barbara) Messelhiser of Le Mars, Diane (Jim) Barry of Silt, Colo., and Terry (Lisa) Messelhiser of Le Mars; six step-children, Carol (Larry) Foraker, Richard (Donna) Roberts, Sharon (Ray) Hanson, and James (Cindy) Roberts, all of Canon City, Colo., Ronald (Kaye) Roberts and David (Mary) Roberts both of Penrose, Colo.; step-daughter-in-law, Faye Roberts, and numerous extended family members.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands Albert Messelhiser and Albert Roberts; and one step-son Gary Roberts.

Graveside services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. The Rev. Jason Larson of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars will officiate. The Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
