Milo "Mike" Kunkel, 86, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and formerly of Le Mars and Moville, died Sunday July 27, 2008 at his home in Colorado Springs.

Milo Andrew Joseph Kunkel was born June 21, 1923, at Le Mars, the son of Joseph Andrew and Mary Frances (Ruppert) Kunkel. He grew up in Le Mars and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School.

Milo married Nancy Jo Zimmer on June 16, 1956, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple farmed for several years in the Moville area before moving to Colorado Springs in 1961. Milo worked for 20 years in the grounds department at School District #11 in Colorado Springs.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Kunkel of Colorado Springs; three children: Rachel Lund and her husband Eric of Anaheim, Calif., Mary Kunkel and John Kunkel both of Colorado Springs; three grandchildren: Joshua Kunkel and Alyssa and Jason Kunkel; a sister Alice Vaske of Le Mars; and two sisters-in-law; DeAnn Kunkel of Le Mars and Shirley Kunkel of Hubbard, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Mason Kunkel; two brothers: Willis and David Kunkel; a sister Lois Jean Kunkel in infancy; and a brother-in-law Al Vaske.

A Scriptural prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday Aug. 1, at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars with Deacon Donald M. Kunkel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be from noon until service time at the funeral home on Friday.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cappadona Funeral Home in Colorado Springs.
