Program offers help in preparing for emergencies

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

Where's your emergency kit? Don't have one? Just how prepared are you of a disaster should strike?

If your emergency kit is lacking in supplies, or worse yet, you have no emergency kit, get yourself prepared by attending the "20 Weeks of Preparedness" program hosted by Floyd Valley Hospital at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, in the hospital's Conference Center Room 1.

This personal preparedness program is designed to help individuals become personally prepared for any emergency by developing a family emergency plan, an emergency kit and a family communications plan. This program can be used by any individual or implemented by any agency or business that would like to improve their employees' level of personal preparedness.

Each family will receive a free starter emergency kit and a checklist to complete an emergency kit in 20 weeks.

The checklist offers a list of supplies to be purchased such as groceries, batteries and flashlights, first aid supplies, supplies for pets, hardware items such as a crowbar, pliers, hammer and screwdriver, medicines, clothing and other items people may not think about for their emergency preparedness.

It also provides a guide for having copies of important papers, knowing where items are stored and having them easily accessible in case of emergency.

For more information visit Emergency Preparedness, under Quick Links at www.floydvalleyhospital.org

This program is free of charge and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged. Make reservations by calling 546-3401 or 800-642-6074, Ext. 401.
