Jan and Jerry Gorrell of Le Mars will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on July 6, 2008. The couple celebrated with their family for a weekend in June.

A card shower is underway and cards may be sent to the couple at 211 Sixth St. N.E., Le Mars, Iowa 51031.

Jerry Gorrell and Janet Koppen were married on July 6, 1958, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside, Iowa. The couple first settled in Renwick where Jan taught school and Jerry worked for the city. They moved to Le Mars in 1964. Jan worked for the Le Mars Daily Sentinel and later taught and retired from the Hinton Community School District, Hinton. Jerry refereed and umpired for many years and worked and retired from Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative, Le Mars. They both are enjoying retirement by golfing, playing cards, woodworking, having coffee with friends, and being groupies for the grandchildren's activities.

They are the parents of four daughters: Jamie and her husband, Bill MacNeill, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Joni and her husband, Fritz Miller, of Sioux City, Julie and her husband, B. J. Schuller, of Sibley, and Jackie and her husband, Larry Plantz, of Le Mars. They are the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren: Ben, Brittany, William, Emily, Catherine, Casey, Alex, and Erica.
