Le Mars Daily Sentinel: Local News: Ice Cream Days' events offer treats for everyone (06/09/08)

Shine up your smiles and classic cars and get ready for Ice Cream Days.

The fun starts Wednesday and concludes Saturday.

Starting the adventure Wednesday, for its second year, is the Smile Contest and Ice Cream Social hosted by the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars at 2 p.m.

Children ages 4-7 can turn on their smiles for judges and prizes. After winners are announced participants and their family members are invited to an ice cream social.

Later that night from 5-8 p.m. folks are encouraged to take in the Tri State Drive-In Cruisers, which includes a collection of restored, classic, street-rod, muscle and other cars. Listen to music from the 1950s and 1960s as you stroll among the cars remembering years past. But don't forget to get your free ice cream treat, compliments of Wells' Dairy, before you leave.

After you get warmed up from all that smiling and walking, head on over to the Le Mars Municipal Swimming Pool for the Splash Dance from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and a free sweet treat.

While you cool off and show off your dance moves, keep in mind the entrance fees for Splash Dance are $1 for children, $2 for youth ages 3-17 and $2.50 for adults. That money will be used for the Tom Skram Memorial and PanCan and to update equipment at the pool.

Don't forget to also check out the The Arts Center and the Plymouth County Museum Wednesday afternoon.

From 1-5 p.m. featured at The Arts Center is the "Kindred Spirits: Connections" exibit by Harry Gray and family featuring descendants of the Hudson River School and Asher Durand.

In that same time period, The Plymouth County Museum will celebrate the pioneer life with the grand opening of the "Kidz Cabin" on the top floor of the museum. Before leaving be sure to stop at Miller's Lunch for a root beer float.
