The Lions scored their first run in the third inning before the Jays came out swinging in the top of the fourth inning and rallied to take a 2-1 lead.

With Taylor on his way home, he got caught in a run-down. However, the Lions made an error on the play and Taylor scored as Schlesser advanced to third as the Jays tied the game .
Tyler Meyer scored Schlesser from third with a groundout as the run was scored on a fielder's choice. The two-run inning put the Jays up heading into the fifth inning.
However, Gehlen's lead wasn't safe for long as the Lions came right back and scored four runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Jays' bats went quiet in the final two frames as Gehlen lost their first game.
Schlesser took the loss as he went 4 1/3 innings and scattered seven hits. The Lions tagged the senior for five runs, all earned. He walked five batters and had five strikeouts on the afternoon.
"Craig pitched a great ball game against a good hitting team " said Gehlen coach Marty Kurth. "We just didn't have enough offense. We put the ball in play but just hit it right at them."
Aaron Schlesser came on as a reliever in the fifth inning and went the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up just one hit and had 1 punch-out.
"It was a good game," said Kurth. "You hate to come out and lose, but it was a good game."
The Jays will be at home Tuesday when Sergeant Bluff-Luton comes to town for the conference opener.
