Elwood 'Woody' Meister

Elwood "Woody" Meister, 65, of Owatonna, Minn., died Monday, May 19, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a three-year about with liver disease.

Woody was born near Kingsley on April 15, 1943, the son of Lee and Hazel (Pierce) Meister. He attended country school and elementary school in Merrill, and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1961. He worked at Toy National Bank in Sioux City, and served with the 185th Air Force Guard unit, including a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968.

On Sept. 4, 1970, he married Judy Nelson of Mapleton at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City. In 1972, he graduated from Briar Cliff College. He and his family moved to Owatonna, Minn., where he worked for Owatonna Savings and Loan and later became a partner in the C & M Insurance Agency until his health forced him to retire in 2006.

Woody was known for his integrity, his smile and quiet sense of humor, his positive outlook, his friendliness and his gentlemanly ways.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; daughter Lisa (David) Larson and their children, Derek and Chelsey of Owatonna, Minn., and daughter Laurie (Donald) Howey and their son Ian of Houston, Texas; a sister, Mary Lou Potts of Sioux City; as well as nieces, nephews and several aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Owatonna United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Brick-Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
