Monica Tejeda was thrown from the passenger seat of a vehicle when its driver, 17-year-old Jade Lalumendre, of Kingsley, apparently lost control of the vehicle, according to the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office.

Mercy Air Care transported Tejeda to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, where she was pronounced dead.
Lalumendre was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Kingsley Ambulance and was treated and released.
The accident took place around noon a few miles north of Moville near the intersection of Humbolt Avenue and Highway 140. The highway runs between Kingsley and Moville.
The vehicle the girls were in received extensive damages, according to the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office.
Moville Ambulance and Fire Department, Woodbury County Disaster and Emergency Services, Iowa State Patrol and the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene first.
Mercy Air Care and Kingsley Ambulance were requested later.
The accident, according to the sheriff's office, remains under investigation.
