When the Akron Fire Department arrived on the scene, there were flames shooting out of one upstairs window, he said.
They had the fire under control in half an hour and stayed on the scene for another two hours.
"There is flame damage upstairs and smoke and water damage to the whole structure," Coyle said of the home, located at 26252 on County Road K-18.
The cause, Coyle said, was likely electrical but is still under investigation.
The Akron Fire Department put the Marlins in contact with the American Red Cross, Siouxland Area Chapter, to assist them with housing as needed.
"We provided food, clothing and shelter," said Beth Trejo, spokesperson for Siouxland's chapter of the Red Cross.
The Red Cross' help is usually on a temporary basis, she said.
"It all depends on the family's situation," Trejo explained. We try to help them find a more long-term solution."
