Lauretta J. McElhenie, 89, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Lauretta June Zastrow was born June 27, 1918, at Hamill, S.D., the daughter of August and Anna Marie (Simmons) Zastrow. Lauretta attended country school near Hamill. She was a waitress for more than 50 years having worked in restaurants in Las Vegas, Denver, Portland, North Platte, Jackson Hole, and Cheyenne through her career.
Lauretta was always there for her family.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters, Betty Kesselring of Dakota City, Neb., Anne Clark of Le Mars, Joe Zastrow and his wife Vera of Wessington Springs, S.D., Matt Zastrow and his wife Fern of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Donald Zastrow and his wife Cecelia of LaMar, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her parents, August and Anna Marie (Simmons) Zastrow; and six brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be a 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges of St. James Catholic Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Hamill, S.D., at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday morning at the funeral home.
