Wasmer Post seeks Memorial Day flags

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

American Legion Wasmer Post #241 will display more than 1,000 flags on Memorial Day, May 26, in the 44th annual Avenue of Flags on the Plymouth County Courthouse grounds in Le Mars.

The post expects to dedicate 30 to 40 new flags which will be added to the 1,060 displayed last year in memory of deceased veterans.

The post requests that new flags be dropped off at the American Legion post home at 110 Plymouth St. S.W. in Le Mars no later than 6 p.m. Friday, May 23, so the flags can be prepared for the Memorial Day program.

To maintain uniformity on the Avenue of Flags, 5' x 9 1/2' casket flags are recommended for dedication.

For anyone who wishes to dedicate a flag and keep the veteran's original casket flag, Wasmer Post has an inventory of flags that are available for purchase. To buy a flag, call Wasmer Post's Sergeant-at-Arms, Larry Baer at 546-6058.

Questions about the Memorial Day

Program may be directed to Post Adjutant, Tom Baack, by e-mail at Wasmer241@gmail.com.

The post members are seeking volunteers to help place the half-staffs for the flags. They will gather at the courthouse grounds at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 24. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, a metal detector, and long, large screwdrivers.

Volunteers are also needed to place the flags in the half-staffs starting at 6 a.m. Monday, May 26.
