A tornado ripped up the ground just north of a rural water tower on county road B-40 in Sioux County Thursday evening. The tornado was one of at least six that were sighted in Iowa as a spring storm swept through, according to the National Weather Service.

Painting the sky black, a twister tore the roof off of an empty hog confinement building owned by Harlan Kooima south of Rock Valley. When the tornado swept through the Rock Valley area, it was about one-half mile wide, according to the National Weather Service. [Click to enlarge]
