A registered voter may vote absentee in the auditor's office in the courthouse 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The auditor's office will also be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 24 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 31.

A registered voter must indicate on the absentee request form whether they want a Republican or a Democrat ballot.
This year, Republicans will have two races on the primary ballot. One race is for a United States Senator seat, currently held by Democrat Tom Harkin, with three vying for the spot: George S. Eichhorn, Steve Rathje and Christopher Reed. They also will choose between Mark R. Loutsch and John A. Schneider for the District 2 Plymouth County Board of Supervisors seat. Schneider is the incumbent. Republicans will also vote on:
-United States Representative District 5, incumbent Steve King
-State offices: State Representative District 53 (for voters in Remsen, Hinton, Kingsley), incumbent Dan Huseman or (for voters Le Mars, Akron, Brunsville, Struble, Craig, Merrill, Perry and Westfield) State Senator District, Randy Feenstra and State Representative District 3, incumbent Chuck Soderberg .
-Plymouth County offices: board of supervisors District , incumbent Jim Henrich, auditor, Stacey Feldman and sheriff, incumbent Mike Van Otterloo.
Democrat ballots have all candidates running unopposed.
-United States Senator, incumbent Tom Harkin
-United States Representative District 5, Ron Hubler
-State offices including State Representative District 53 with Lori Sokolowski running (for voters in Remsen, Hinton and Kingsley) or (for voters in Le Mars, Akron, Brunsville, Struble, Craig, Merrill, Perry and Westfield) State Senator District 2, no candidate and State Representative District 3, T.J. Templeton
-County offices including board of supervisors District 2, no candidate, board of supervisors District 5, Bill Koopman and sheriff and auditor, no candidates.
