Julianna T. Langel was born Dec. 18, 1922, at Alton, the daughter of William and Clara (Reith) Minten. Julianna was raised in Alton and received her education at St. Mary Academy in Alton from which she graduated in 1941. On Nov. 27, 1945 she married Clarence Langel at Alton where they made their home. In 1947 they moved to near Le Mars, where they were engaged in farming. In 1948 they moved to near Alton to farm, retiring on the farm in 1984.
She had been a resident of Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City since Feb. 21, 2008.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Rosary Society in Alton. She enjoyed baking, bowling and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Clarence, of Alton; two sons and their wives, Dennis and Cathy, Gerald "Jerry" and Linda all of Alton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Langel and her son, Cody, of Alton, Kimberly and her husband Dave Klock and their sons, Kalab and Jeffrey, of Chancellor, S.D., Kevin and his wife Kathryn Langel and their daughter, Mckenna, of O'Fallon Mo.,, Krissa Langel of Waukee; one sister, Mrs. Greg (Theresa) Pick of Remsen; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Jackie) Minten of Orange City
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter-in-law, Judith Langel; four sisters, Melinda and her husband Richard Duits, Margaret Minten in infancy, Eleanor and her husband Lawrence Ruppert, Bernice and her husband LeRoy Treinen; two brothers, Norbert Minten in infancy, Robert Minten; one brother-in-law, Greg Pick.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alto with the Rev. Richard D. Ball officiating and the Rev. James Tigges concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Alton. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today (Monday). There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. by St. Mary Rosary Society and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. all at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton. The Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen is in charge of arrangements.
Casket Bearers will be Elmer Frederes, Nick Ruppert, Ronald Minten, Chuck Kellen, Dave and Mike Langel.
