Mr. and Mrs. Robert Book of Akron announce the engagement of their daughter Katie Book of Iowa City, to Nate Goergen of Washington, D.C. Katie is the granddaughter of the late Don Gabel and Marcella Gabel of Hawarden. Nate is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cary Goergen of Alexandria, Minn.

The couple is planning an Aug. 23, 2008, wedding.

The bride-elect is a 2000 graduate of Akron-Westfield High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of Iowa, where she will graduate from medical school this May. She will begin her medical residency in anesthesiology at the University of Maryland this June.

Her fiance is a 2000 graduate of Jefferson High School in Alexandria, Minn., and a 2004 graduate of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. He is currently a graduate student in electrical engineering at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.
