Siouxland All-America Band concert benefits Le Mars Arts Council

Thursday, February 14, 2008

The Siouxland All-America Concert Band will be performing in Le Mars on Sunday, March 2, in a benefit concert for the Le Mars Arts Council. The 3 p.m. concert at the Le Mars Community School Auditorium is entitled "Marches, Classics and All That Jazz."

Tickets for the performance are $10 and all students are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the Arts Center, 200 Central Ave SE, 546-7476, or at the door the afternoon of the concert. A ticket purchased for this concert will directly benefit the community by supporting the arts.

The concert will feature four marches of varying styles; classic band literature including Scenes from "The Louvre"; and jazz music Scootin on Hardrock, Big Band Signatures, and a tribute to Satchmo.

The Siouxland All-America Band is the "premier concert band in the mid-west," according to the web-site of this group of 65 Siouxland musicians.

"We are a very unique organization in that every performance we do is a benefit for a qualifying non-profit 501(c)3. Because of generous corporate underwriting we receive from area businesses, 100 percent of the funds raised from concert tickets is given to our beneficiaries and we have been able to raise thousands of dollars which are reinvested in our communities to make them a better place in which to live."

The mission of the Le Mars Arts Council, Inc., is to promote artists and provide area residents with experiences that encourage arts awareness and appreciation.

"We're starting the year 2008 off with a big bang," reads a letter from the Le Mars Arts Council board. "This is your chance to donate to the Arts Council, get tickets for yourself and donate the price a ticket for another."

The additional $10 donation will make it possible for another person to attend the band concert who may not otherwise have the chance, the letter continues. "We will distribute the extra tickets funded by generous Arts Council members to deserving seniors, families and/or care organizations."

With funds raised by this concert, the LMAC will be able to continue providing afterschool arts classes, monthly exhibits, and leadership in community programs such as Barn Quilts of Plymouth County to name just a few of their projects.

For more information on this concert, ticket sales or the opportunity to provide a ticket to assist another in getting to the concert, call the Arts Center at 546-7476, or email lemarsarts@frontiernet.net.
