Margaret Ames was born March 8, 1922, to Phillip Jacob and Marie (Flynn) Boever in Ryegate, Mont., and married Robert Melberg Ames on Nov. 26, 1941, in Marcus. Graduating from high school in Le Mars, she returned to school later in life to earn her nursing degree while raising five children.
She lived most of her life in the Marcus until moving to Ocean Beach in San Diego, Calif., in 1998 and then to Sky Valley, Calif., near Palm Springs in 2003.
She loved sports, having played semi-professional softball during World War II while working in the aircraft industry in Wichita, Kan. She will be greatly missed for her integrity, courage, sense of fairness, and humor.
Peg will be lovingly remembered by her children Robert (Diane) Ames of Omaha, Neb., Linda (Ronald) Ogren of Lincoln, Neb., Gayle Sand Gallo (Jay Cayner) of Iowa City, Terry (Darlene) Ames and Todd Ames, all of San Diego; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four brothers and sisters.
Her husband, Bob, and eight siblings preceded her in death.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb, 9, at the Holy Name Catholic Church, Marcus. A private burial service will be held in the Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to Mass at the church.
