Duane S. Thompson, 62, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.
Duane Stuart Thompson was born Oct. 1, 1945, in Le Mars, the son of Harold and Obie (Morgan) Thompson. Duane was raised on his parents' farm and educated at Union school. After graduation he began farming and served with the Iowa Army National Guard in Le Mars. Other activities included driving a bus for Union school.
Duane attended the Presbyterian Church and supported many charities where he sponsored needy children. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. A trip to Montana resulted in an eight-point mule deer. Other hobbies included bowling and listing to music.
He is survived by his three brothers: Rolland and his wife Lila of Merrill, Harold and his wife Cindy of Pleasant Hill and Richard and his wife Kathy of Marshalltown; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
