Dr. Wayne and Ruth Marie Faber of Le Mars celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer with a trip on the Hurtigruten from Bergen, Norway to Kirkenes in the north.

Cousins surprised them with visits at four of their ports of call including several in the Arctic Circle. The Fabers flew to Oslo and were hosted at an anniversary party with 5 Norwegian cousins living in this region.

The Fabers met at the home of Ruth Marie's aunt and uncle who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in Gowrie, Iowa. Dr. Faber was working as a veterinarian precept for Dr. Carl L. Telleen at the time.

Ruth Marie worked in public relations and served as Minnesota Princess Kay of the MIlky Way and first American Dairy Princess, traveling nationally and internationally as dairy's goodwill ambassadress.

Dr. Faber is a graduate of Iowa State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced in Le Mars for 30 years, then worked for a private veterinary company.

Wayne Faber and the former Ruth Marie Peterson were married in St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, Minn., on Jan. 27, 1957, by Pastor Arthur L. Swenson. It was a cold Minnesota day, 27 degrees below zero.

The couple have two children, Heidi of Stockholm, Sweden, and Jay Faber of Le Mars, and one grandson, Steven of Le Mars.

The couple have lived in Le Mars the past 50 years.
