Christmas snow blankets Plymouth County

Wednesday, December 26, 2007

"I'm dreaming of a White Christmas/Just like the ones I used to know."

For many people, having a "White Christmas" became a reality as a blustery snowstorm blacked out thousands of homes and businesses Monday and caused airport delays across the upper midwest.

For Plymouth County, snow fell during the early evening hours Tuesday, blanketing Le Mars with an additional one-and-one-half inches of wet, heavy new snow. This is in addition to the two inches of precipitation left by previous snowfalls.

This fast-moving snow system, the National Weather Service out of Sioux Falls reports, will be leaving Plymouth County by mid-morning on Wednesday. Cloudy skies will remain, with a high near 29.

Wednesday night will bring areas of fog, occurring after midnight, with a low around 8.

The next chance for measurable precipitation will occur after midnight, Thursday night. Forecasters predict a 50 percent of the white stuff during the overnight hours and a 40 percent chance for Friday morning.
