Wilma Jean Ropte of Longmont, Colo., died Nov. 13, 2007 at the Berthoud Living Center. She was 84.

Wilma was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of Morris C. and Hazel (Tidemann) Bailey. She graduated from Coleridge High School in 1939, and attended Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Neb., and went on to teach at rural schools.

She married Marvin Ropte May 11, 1947, in Coleridge, Neb. They farmed in the Coleridge area before moving to Longmont in 1985.

Wilma was a secretary for Immanuel Lutheran in Coleridge for 18 years, past chairman of Cedar County, Nebraska, Home Extension Council, served six years as secretary of Cedar County Extension board, Past Worthy Matron of Arema Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Coleridge, Neb., and held many offices of Lutheran Church Women. She was currently a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and Columbine Chapter #11 Order of Eastern Star.

She enjoyed leading programs including Bible studies, and was active with the Longmont Senior Center. Her hobbies included all kinds of puzzles, and she made more than 2,000 quilts for gifts and mission work.

She is survived by her daughter Jean Flanagan and husband Gary of Longmont, Colo.; one son, Eric Ropte and wife Doris of Craig,; one sister Mary Ellen Blatchford of York, Neb.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin L. Ropte, and step-grandson Ben Groekgon.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday Nov. 26, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Peterson officiating. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Inurnment was at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
