A 71-42 win Friday night over West Monona gives the Remsen-Union boys basketball team a chance for something they haven't been able to accomplish all season - a winning streak.
The Rockets are 3-3 on the season but haven't yet won back-to-back games.
"I feel like we've been playing better," R-U coach Steve Neuberger said. "We're playing good ball. It would be great if we could string a couple together before Christmas and get on a roll."
In its win over West Monona, Remsen-Union had three players score 14 or more points, getting the balance they need to win.
"Top to bottom we had a real balanced attack," Neuberger said. "We talked before the game about making them earn every shot they got and I thought defensively we really made them work."
After being down 14-12 after the first quarter, R-U stormed back and took a 38-22 lead into halftime. The Rockets extended that lead to 58-29 after the third quarter. They hit 31-of-68 field goals on the game.
Collin Sonnichsen led the team in scoring with 19 points while Jonathon Schreiner added 15 points and ten rebounds.
"It seems we have seven or eight guys capable of leading the team in scoring," Neuberger said. "If one or two aren't scoring as much there is always someone ready to step up. When you have a couple guys scoring its much harder to defend then if you just have one or two."
Kraig Alesch chipped in 14 points and seven assists for the Rockets. Ryan Schroeder also had five assists.
"The guys are really starting to buy into an unselfish style of play," Neuberger said. "The more they move the ball around the better offensive looks we are getting."
Remsen-Union will look to earn its first back-to-back wins of the season Friday when it hosts Whiting.
