Applications for Hotel/Motel tax funding are now available at Le Mars City Hall during regular business hours.
Completed applications must be returned to city hall no later than noon, Friday, Nov. 16, in order to be considered. Non-profit and not-for-profit organizations qualify for hotel/motel tax funding.
The format for the application has been changed this year to increase impact and funding efficiency. The complete instructions are provided with the application forms. There will be a "walk-through" of the new format at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11 in the Le Mars City Council chambers.
Projects must begin no earlier than July 1, 2008, and must be completed by June 30, 2009. Multiple projects must be submitted on separate applications.
Organizations receiving hotel/motel tax funds cannot request additional funding towards projects from the Le Mars City Council and they will not be notified of awards until after the city's budget has been approved in February.
Since the incorporation of the five percent hotel/motel tax in Le Mars in September 2001, more than $600,000 in grant funds has been awarded to a variety of projects.
"We have learned a lot in the past six years," said Lisa Whitehead, who has served as the committee representative for the Le Mars lodging industry since the fund's inception. "We all want to maximize our grant program and really ramp up the accountability part of this process."
