Three people injured in accident, west of Merrill

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision one mile west of Merrill on C-44 Saturday morning, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office reported.

At 10:24 a.m., Blake Adam Roberts, 17, North Sioux City, S.D., was traveling east on C-44 in a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird. James Edward Cullinane, 56, Hinton, was heading west on C-44, driving a 2002 Dodge Ram.

According to the sheriff's office, both vehicles met at the crest of a hill and collided. Roberts' Sunbird entered the ditch and rolled several times.

Roberts was taken to Mercy Medical center with what the sheriff's office called major injuries. Cullinane and a passenger, his five-year-old grandson, were taken to Mercy Medical Center by Hinton and Merrill Ambulances with minor injuires.

Estimated damage to Cullinane's Dodge Ram is $5,000. Roberts' Sunbird was totaled in the accident.

The Plymouth County Sheriff's Office was assisted in this accident by the Iowa State Patrol, the Le Mars Police Department, the Merrill and Hinton Fire Departments and the Merrill and Hinton Police Departments.

The accident is still under investigation by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
