Marian E. Groff, 92, of Remsen, died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Marian E. Groff was born April 24, 1915, at Alton, the daughter of George and Marietta (Van Steenwyk) Hagar. Marian lived her earlier years at Alton, then various communities and moved with her family to Remsen when she was in her early teens. She graduated from Remsen Public School in 1933 and then attended beauty school.
On June 24, 1936, she married Roman Groff at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Remsen where she assisted her husband in the operation of Groff Plumbing. She also did baking for various people and made pies and pastries for several restaurants in Remsen for many years. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed quilting.
On Dec. 16, 2003, they moved to Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. On April 25, 2004, they moved to Park Place Estates in Le Mars. Roman died Dec. 1, 2005.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the church Guild. She was a past member of the Sweet Adelines of LeMars, TOPS and KOPS.
Survivors include one son, Daniel and his wife Clarice of Remsen; three daughters and their husbands, Marietta and Ken Alesch, Marian Fae and Jim Moritz, all of Remsen, and Christine and Larry Wearth of Tempe, Ariz.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two stepgreat-great-granddaughters; one brother, George D. Hagar of Le Mars and his special friend, Ida Mae Backhaus of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Callista Wallmark of Ossian and Jean Groff of Charles City.
She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Robert Arens; two brothers, Lawrence Hagar, Howard and his wife Aileen Hagar; one sister, Lillian Luken Garrett and her husbands, Jack Luken and Tom Garrett; three brothers-in-law, Clarence and his wife Loretta Groff, Frank Groff Jr., Clifford Wallmark.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St., Mary's Catholic Church in remsen with the services with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officating and Msgr. Nicholas J. Ruba and Rev. William McCarthy concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in may call after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a rosary by St. Mary's Guild at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Casketbearers will be Roman Arens, Keith Arens, Jamie Wearth, Nikki Wearth, Marty Kurth, Mitchell Kurth, Brent Ruden and Gaylon Hoebelheinrich.
