A Webster City Community Schools middle school associate principal/athletic director (5-8) has been hired as the assistant superintendent of operations for Le Mars Community Schools.
A contract for Gary Janssen was approved by the LCS board of education at their June 11 meeting. He will replace Rick Kentfield, who resigned the position in May.
Janssen has been in the Webster City Community School District since 2002. He previously served as middle school principal at West Sioux Community Schools in Hawarden from 1994 to 2002, with wrestling coach duties in 2001 and 2002.
According to LCS Superintendent Dr. Todd Wendt, 13 completed applications were received for the position. "Gary Janssen is the best fit for us right now," Wendt told the board. He has completed his advance studies certification in educational administration from the University of Northern Iowa. "He comes highly recommended by his current superintendent Mike Sherwood (formerly at Kingsley-Pierson Schools)," Wendt said.
Janssen began his education career as industrial arts teacher/wrestling coach at Farragut Community School in 1981. He moved on to Shenandoah Community Schools in 1988 where he was head junior high and assistant high school wrestling coach. In 1991. He served as high school principal/transportation director at Sentral-Burt High School for one year, and was then junior/senior high school principal at East Buchanan Community School in Winthrop from 1992-1994.
Janssen's contract begins July 1, at a salary of $82,000.
