Paul Meylor, 84, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at his home.

Paul Raymond Meylor was born July 13, 1922, on the family farm near Marcus in Cherokee County, the son of Ray and Mary (Cox) Meylor.  He was raised in Cherokee County and graduated from Immaculate Conception Parochial High School in Cherokee.

In 1942 he went to Alaska and worked on the Alcan Highway. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corp. in 1943 and attended Cadet Pilot Training School. At the end of W.W. II, he was honorably discharged and returned home to the Cherokee area and began his career raising livestock and farming.

Paul married Elizabeth Marie Ruhland May 22, 1950 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church -- Neptune, in Lincoln Township. Following their marriage the couple farmed for 50 years southeast of Cherokee. Paul and Betty moved to Le Mars in 2000.

Mr. Meylor was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, a former longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council #1466, a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Garrigan Assembly in Sioux City, and a member of the American Legion, Wasmer Post #241. He had also served as a board member for the A.S.C. Office and had served on the board for the Cleghorn and Cherokee Elevators for many years.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Le Mars; five children: Dr. Dean Meylor and his wife Jeanene of Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Cliff Meylor and his wife Deb of Sioux City, Dr. Wayne Meylor and his wife Kris of Le Mars, Dr. Lee Meylor and his wife Laurie of Storm Lake, and Mary Lundsgaard and her husband Steve of Cherokee; a daughter-in-law Kay Meylor of Cherokee; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ann Hoomany and her husband John of Boco Ratan, Fla., Ginger Sitzmann of Le Mars, and Dr. Ramona Kennedy and her husband Dr. Al Kennedy of Cherokee; a sister-in-law Ann Meylor of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son James "Jamie" Meylor; a granddaughter Kari Meylor; three brothers: John Dean in childhood, Dr. Don Meylor, and Dr. R.J. Meylor; a sister Mary Elaine Meylor; and a brother-in-law Roman Sitzmann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee with military honors provided by the V.F.W., L.A. Wescott Post #2253. Visitation at St. James Church will be Friday after 2 p.m., where there will be a Parish rosary at 4 p.m., the Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., followed by a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m. and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice Service.

The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pallbearers will be his sons: Dr. Dean Meylor, Dr. Cliff Meylor, Dr. Wayne Meylor, Dr. Lee Meylor, a son-in-law Steve Lundsgaard and a grandson Jonathan Meylor.
