'Shaving for a Cure' race is on

Friday, May 25, 2007
The donations are mounting as "Shaving for a Cure" ends its second week of voting by dollars.

It's all part of the American Cancer Society 2007 Plymouth County Relay For Life and will culminate in a smooth head for one of the six participants. The shaving will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, during the Relay For Life at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds.

Jim Miller of American Bank in Remsen moved into first place after the totals came in this week. Dr. Paul Parmelee of Medical Associates dropped to second place, with Todd Anderson of the Mantrap keeping a solid hold on third place.

The three other volunteers for the fundraising event are Lenny Flack, police officer with the Le Mars Police Department; Dr. Scott Ihrke, optometrist with Le Mars Optometric Clinic; and Jeff Kelly, vice president marketing at Harker's Distribution, Inc.

Containers with pictures of each participant for donations are at the following locations:

Le Mars -- American Bank, First National Bank, Kingsley State Bank, Northwest Iowa Credit Union, Primebank, The Mantrap, Le Mars Beauty College, Medical Associates; Floyd Valley Hospital; Le Mars Optometric Clinic; Remsen -- American Bank and Farmer's Savings Bank; Akron -- People's Bank, First National Bank; and Iowa Prairie Bank locations at Brunsville, Merrill and Hinton.

Containers will be at these locations until May 30, and will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. the night of the Relay For Life.
