Akron teen killed when tractor collides into his car

An Akron teen was killed Saturday afternoon when when a farm tractor collided with his car at the intersection of C-38 and Fir Avenue.

At approximately 2:32 p.m., Tyler Dawdy, 18, was westbound on C-38, driving a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass, according to the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office.

A 2001 John Deere farm tractor driven by Gerald Bernard Deiterman, 83, rural Merrill, was eastbound and was attempting to turn left onto Fir Avenue.

According to the sheriff's office, the loader arms of the tractor struck the left side of the car.

Dawdy was transported by Mercy Air Care to Mercy Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

Deiterman was not injured in the accident.

The Plymouth County Sheriff's Office was assisted in the investigation of this accident by the Iowa State Patrol, Merrill Fire, and Merrill Ambulance.

The investigation into this accident in ongoing, the sheriff's office says.
