Ella Martha Molzen was born Dec. 25, 1917, in Washington Township, Plymouth County, to Henry and Engel (Kleihauer) Ludwigs. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school near her home. Following her education Ella assisted her family with housekeeping and farming.
On Jan. 2, 1942, Ella and Leonard Molzen were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township) rural Le Mars. The couple made their home on the family farm in Plymouth County. Ella was a homemaker and farmed along with Leonard.
She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (Preston Township) rural Akron, and was active in Circle. Ella enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning and spending time outdoors.
Ella will be lovingly remembered by her husband Leonard of Le Mars; a son Larry Molzen and his wife Sharon of Hinton; two grandchildren Tim Molzen and his wife Monti of Merrill and Mike Molzen of Iowa City; and a brother Jack Ludwigs of Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Elizabeth Haage, Mary Ruble and Lena Mammen; brothers George Ludwigs, William Ludwigs, Elmer Ludwigs, and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (Preston Township), rural Akron, with the Rev. Jerry Crow officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12 noon Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled for 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
