Tom was born on Sept. 11, 1950, in Ames. He graduated from high school in Le Mars, and received his B.S. degree in industrial administration from Iowa State University. Tom was involved in the millwork and building material business for 35 years; and, for the last 10 years, he was vice president and general manager of Millwork Sales, Inc., Orlando, Fla.
Tom was a member of Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club and Lodge. An avid golfer, he won numerous club tournaments and loved sharing his passion for golf with his family and friends. He served on the board of directors of the Bay Hill Invitational Golf Tournament for 12 years, and he was the tournament chairman in 2003 and 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, son, Ryan (Jessica), daughter, Karyn Kizina, granddaughter, Madison Kizina, all of Orlando; parents, Vance and Roddy Stead, of Monticello, and Clermont, Fla.; brother, Dave (Cathy) Stead of Andover, Minn.,; and two sisters Peg (John) Slusher of Marion, Iowa and Kaytlin of Asheville, N.C.
A memorial service was held Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 4851 S. Apopka-Vineland, Orlando.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Fla., or Arnold Palmer's Hospital for Children/Champions for Children, Orlando, Fla.
