HUMBOLDT - Dorothy J. "Dottie" Toyne, 75, of Humboldt died March 4, 2007, at her home.
Dorothy Jean Marcue, the daughter of Ralph and Flora (McKinnon) Marcue, was born Feb. 25, 1932 at Le Mars. She was raised and educated at Le Mars and attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon where it took her just three years to receive her degree. Following her education, Dottie served as a girl's counselor for the Muscatine School District. She was united in marriage to George Toyne on June 26, 1955, at Le Mars and the couple made their home in Maryland while George served in the military. In 1956, the family moved back to Muscatine where she returned to teaching. In 1962, they made their home at Humboldt and Dottie again served as counselor at the Humboldt Junior High School. In 1985, George and Dottie moved to Cedar Rapids on business, returning to Humboldt in 1986.
Mrs. Toyne was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Humboldt where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a member of PEO and Chautauqua. She enjoyed bird watching, spring flowers and gardening, reading and swimming. She enjoyed her travels with George all over the country and spending winters near her family in Arizona.
Survivors include her husband, George Toyne of Humboldt; son, Lee Toyne of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Carol Toyne of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and half brothers, Donald Marcue of Evergreen, Colo., and William (Dorothy) Kupke of Silver City, N.M.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Funeral services are being planned for a later date. The Mason Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is handling the arrangements.
