Mitchel David Scheitler, 18-month-old infant son of Jed and Jeannie Scheitler of Maurice, died Sunday April 8, 2007, at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Neb., following a three-month struggle with cancer.
Mitchel was born Oct. 8, 2005, in Orange City, the son of Jed and Jeannie (Becvar) Scheitler. He lived at Maurice with his parents and was diagnosed with cancer in January of this year.
Mitchel enjoyed pushing his toy cars and trucks around as he made little motor noises. He also enjoyed looking at his books and watching his Thomas and Friends video.
Survivors include his parents Jed and Jeannie Scheitler of Maurice; maternal grandparents David and Susan Becvar of Wagner, S.D.; paternal grandparents Lyle and Betty Scheitler of Le Mars; maternal great-grandmother Helen Becvar of Tyndall, S.D.; and paternal great-grandparents Alvin and Caroline Scheitler of Le Mars.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents Daniel Becvar and Otto and Dorothy Fousek; paternal great-grandparents Alfred and Fern Haring; and an uncle Joseph Lyle Scheitler.
A Mass of the Angels will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens with the Rev. Eugene Murray and the Rev. John Vakulskas concelebrating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary's School Gymnasium in Alton, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning at St. Catherine's Church in Oyens for one hour prior to the service.
