A-W girls open golf season at EP-J

The Akron-Westfield girls golf team got an early jump to the 2007 spring season by competing at the Husky Invitational hosted by Elk Point-Jefferson Thursday at the Elk Point Country Club.

The Lady Westerners shot a team 506 in their season debut, ranking seventh among nine teams competing.

West Central was the meet champion with a team 411, followed by host Elk Point-Jefferson with a 412 and Vermillion with a 415. Rounding out the field were Dell Rapids (420), Canton (425), Dakota Valley (449), A-W (506), Beresford (553) and Harrisburg (560).

Top individuals for the meet included medalist Abby Seehan of Dell Rapids with an 85 and runner-up medalist Kayla McInerney of Elk Point-Jefferson with an 86. Also in the top 10 were Karlee Holbrook of Dakota Valley (91), Laura Liesinger of West Central (92), Cara Liesinger of West Central (93), Anna Isaacson of Vermillion (93), Nicole Funck of Dakota Valley (97), Marie Huber of Canton (100), Taya Sandro of Harrisburg (101) and Chelsea Gauer of Vermillion (101).

Individual results for the Akron-Westfield girls were not available at deadline.
