SPIRIT LAKE -- Marjorie Fern Brown Lee, 86, of Spirit Lake, died Friday, March 9, 2007, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Marjorie was born at Coleridge, Neb., in the spring of 1920, the daughter of Matt and Nellie (Manson) Brown. The early years of her education were spent at Concord and Hubbard, Neb. She moved to Merrill, Iowa, in 1931, where she graduated from high school. After completing two years of elementary education at Wayne State Teachers College, she went on to teach at Soldier and Mapleton. Following a move to Schaller, she worked as a teller in the State Bank of Schaller for three years.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Elliott Lee on Jan. 31, 1942, in Blair, Neb. Because married teachers soon lost their jobs, they kept their marrage a secret until the end of the school year. Soon that rule changed when World War Ii came about.
After the war, the couple lived in Sioux City, Soldier, Schaller, Cherokee and Le Mars. when Elliott retired after 32 years of banking, the couple moved to Spirit Lake, spending their winters in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Marjorie was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Church Women's Circle and Chapter MO, P.E.O. She enjoyed spending her spare time reading, walking, playing cards and keeping in touch with friends.
Survivors include her husband, Elliott Lee of Spirit Lake; a son, Michael Lee and his wife, Judy, of Spirit Lake; grandsons Derek and Dan; a brother, Wayne Brown and his wife, Dorothy of Le Mars; sisters-in-law, Barbara Brown of Sedona, Ariz., and Janet and Bill Sanford of Carroll; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Karen Beth, who was the vicim in a fatal car accident in 1965; and brothers, Murl and Gerald.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, at the United methodist Church in Spirit Lake. The Schuchert Funeral Home of Spirit Lake is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Marjorie's name.
