Larry Sanow was born Oct. 20, 1936, at rural Le Mars, the son of Lester and Clover (Woodall) Sanow. Larry was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at Union School from which he graduated in 1955. He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 14, 1956, and served until being discharged July 25, 1958.
On Dec. 26, 1956 he married Margaret "Peggy" Thorn in New Albany, Ind. They made their home in Remsen where he was employed at George's Frontier Service, then BECO Electric for about 15 years until 1982 and from then at Farmers Co-Op until his retirement on Oct. 31, 2006.
Peggy died April 30, 2006.
He was a member of the past O R Saddle Club in Remsen and a charter member of the R.I.M.S. Motorcycle Club. He worked the score table for the athletic games at Remsen-Union School from 1989 until the present.
He enjoyed woodworking, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Don and his wife Carla of Lexington, N.C.; two daughters and their husbands, Bobbi Jo and George Hubbard of Morgantown, Ind., Robin and Cory Weiler of Remsen; seven grandchildren, Damon and Holly James of Lexington, N.C., Kaitlin and Sarah McLevish of Morgantown, Ind., Taylor, Alexandra and Travis Weiler, all of Remsen; his mother, Clover Sanow of Remsen; three brothers, Ronald of Fostoria, Roger and his wife Pam of Remsen and Jeff of Glidden; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Hensen and her special friend Dave of Ogden, Utah and Sandy and her husband Tom Augustine of Remsen; one brother-in-law, Phillip and his wife Val Jorgensen of Rochester, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his father, Lester; two grandchildren, both in infancy, Jo Lynn Sanow and Travis James Weiler; his father- and mother-in-law, George and Phyllis Nilles; and one sister-in-law, Royetta "Snookie" Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen with the Revs. Craig Miller and William McCarthy officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Casketbearers will be Rockie Bork, George Hubbard, Nick Jalas, Kory Kroeger, Scott Ruden and Jeff Tritz.
