Robert John Pratt was born Aug. 25, 1927, on the family farm in Elkhorn Township, near Kingsley, the son of George Arthur and Mary Agnes (Conley) Pratt. Bob graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1946 and farmed in the Kingsley area following school. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. During the war he served 11 months in an infantry division in Korea.
Bob was united in marriage to Patricia McFarland on March 29, 1953, at the First United Methodist Church in Le Mars. Bob and Patricia farmed in the Kingsley and Quimby area until moving to Le Mars in 1964. Bob had worked for Simonsen Fertilizer in Quimby until 1977. In 1977, Bob and his son, Allen started R & A Fertilizer in Le Mars. Bob continued to be involved with the business until he suffered a stroke in March 2006.
Through the years Bob and Pat enjoyed wintering at South Padre Island, Texas. He also enjoyed camping, especially in the Black Hills. Bob enjoyed visiting with people and had a talent for telling corny jokes. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Bob felt strongly about his country and had a close relationship with his Lord. He was a very kind and gentle man.
